Sensory Friendly Worship Service
Sunday, April 28
1 - 1:30 pm
Our sensory-friendly worship service is 30 minutes in length, has quieter music with either piano or guitar, no loud sounds, visuals used as much as possible & visual schedules provided for those who would like them. We also have sensory fidgets & beanbag chairs available. There is no judgment here & people can feel free to move around as needed. This is also a wonderful service for those with small children. Everyone is welcome at any of our worship services!
Friends In Faith
Monday, April 29
6:30 - 7:30 pm upstairs at church
This class is designed to support teenagers & adults with special needs on their faith journey! We celebrate our abilities, make lasting friendships, strengthen our faith & learn about the stories in the Bible through music, art, games, drama, cooking, science & so much more! We have been having a great time learning about prayer, practicing praying & making prayer journals! We also made resurrection rolls while learning about the Easter story. These were crescent rolls stuffed with a marshmallow (representing Jesus) coated in melted butter (representing the oil Jesus was anointed with) & sprinkled with cinnamon & sugar (representing the spices used). When you bake them the marshmallow melts & the tomb is empty!

Purpose of the program:
To provide interactive opportunities & build relationships between people with/without special needs.
When is the program?
This program is currently offered 4 nights a week, 5 times per year.
How does the program work?
Students are paired with a youth peer or adult
An educational activity such as matching fractions to the same measuring cup, is completed while waiting for everyone to arrive.
Students then move into the kitchen to make the recipe with their buddy.
Each new student receives a set of utensils to keep including wet & dry ingredient measuring cups, measuring spoons, a scraper, a recipe & a recipe binder.
While the item is baking, the students clean up their areas & play Bingo (with prizes of course) until the baking is complete.
Baked items are taken home to share with family & friends!
Benefits of the program:
Interactions with those who have special needs increases understanding & acceptance, improves attitudes & builds lasting relationships.
Provides respite for families who can run errands, network with other families, or just relax with a cup of coffee.
Engages collaboration between churches, schools & the community through volunteering.
Students with special needs & the volunteers gain valuable baking & kitchen skills.
Opportunities to participate in other church activities/events.
