Job Description
The church custodian maintains the Church property (building and grounds) in a clean, orderly, well-kept manner. He or she prepares the Church for scheduled services, meetings, special events; advises the Senior Minister or other Church staff of major maintenance needs, supply/equipment needs; and advises on the purchase of supplies and equipment needed, acquiring items as approved. The custodian is responsible to the Church Council. The custodian’s immediate supervisor is the Senior Minister who handles day-to-day operations of the Church. The custodian also works closely with the Head Trustee and other Church Trustees to oversee the property of the Church.
Responsibilities
- Accomplish regular cleaning and maintenance of the Church as delineated on a checklist developed by the Trustees
- Accomplish work orders in a timely fashion
- Maintain regular hours as required for the position
Qualifications
- Significant knowledge, skills, and experience in buildings and grounds custodial work
- Commitment to high quality work
- Well organized
- Has good interpersonal skills related to work with the Church staff and the Congregation
- Ability to work on his/her own without strong day-to-day direction
Other
- The custodian is expected to work about 20-30 hours per week.
- At the end of each month the custodian submits a log of hours to the Church Treasurer.

Job Description
The Director of Christian Education at E&R UCC is a permanent part-time position committed to overseeing the Christian Education programs. He or she will work with the Senior Minister, Board of Christian Education and any other church committees and/or volunteers to assure continuation of the Christian education of our children. This person will be responsible for children’s participation in church life, and will assist with children’s wider community events planning. This position will report to the Senior Minister.
We are using the "Workshop Rotation Model" for the first time beginning sometime in October.
Responsibilities and Role
The Director of Christian Education works collaboratively in consultation with the Senior Minister and the Board of Christian Education in performing the following duties:
- Assists in examining, ordering, implementing, and evaluating curriculum
- Inventories supplies and resources, and submits purchase orders as found necessary
- Plans Sunday School programs integrating music into the program
- Recruits, trains and supports teachers
- Attends Board of Education, weekly Staff meetings and Council meetings as needed
- Submits a monthly Trumpet article and other correspondence as necessary
- Maintains attendance records and administers annual parent survey
- Follows up on children who have not been attending
- Maintains continuous communication with parents
- Assists in preparing the budget for Sunday School and provides draft to BudgetCommittee
- Maintains the acolyte and nursery volunteer schedules
- Assists in preparing, administering, tabulating and reporting results of a Confirmation evaluation to parents/students
- Assists in maintaining a documentation system for confirmation requirements
- Assists in taking steps to keep the church in compliance with “Safe Sanctuary” policy, including distributing forms for background checks on adults working closely with children
Duties of this position may be subject to change at the discretion of the Senior Minister in consultation with the Board of Christian Education and the Church Council.
The Director of Christian Education will work an average of 20 hours per week. He or she will keep regular hours in the church office.

- Is a member of E & R, or becomes a member following hire
- Takes part in professional development opportunities related to the position, as approved by the Senior Minister and Personnel Committee
Qualifications
- A firm foundation and faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission of the United Church of Christ
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work with staff, Council, parents, youth and children
- Exceptional communication, training and organizational skills
- Experience with volunteers and recruiting of adults
- A degree in Education is preferred but not required
- Leadership ability
- Ability to work on his/her own without strong day-to-day direction
