February Notes from Sunday school

Deep Sea Discovery: Diving into the Bible is up and running again! We have been learning about the story of Joseph and his brothers and how to locate the story in the Bible, identify Genesis as the first book in the Bible and in the Old Testament, explain how jealousy played a part in the story of Joseph and can separate us from family and friends, and how God loves us and is never separated from us, no matter what happens!  We have been playing a cranium-like game to learn the story, building and decorating peace houses in art and watching clips of the video “Joseph – King of Dreams”.  Our next rotation will tell us the rest of the story of Joseph as he became a great ruler and forgave his brothers.

Our preschoolers/kindergarteners are busy as well!  They have been learning about the stories of Jesus as a boy and as a teacher.  In February, they will learn about Jesus and the children, Jesus and the woman from Samaria, and Jesus and Zacchaeus.  They will be learning that Jesus loves people everywhere and wants us to love others too.  They will be making “I love you” cards, an around the world picture wheel, making prayer cards, tasting different foods from around the world such as pineapple and pita bread, and making “care and share” bags.  February is going to be a lot of fun!

We finished our first mission of the year which was raising money for HAWS and the kids raised $110!!!  That is so great!  Our next mission is our national mission and we will be raising money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital to help fight childhood cancer!  For every $1 your child(ren) bring in, they will be given a coin to purchase a gumball from our gumball machine. I’ll have baggies available to put the gum in.  If you would rather your child not have gum, please let me know and other options can be arranged.

Family Sunday – February 4th

Also, the annual meeting where I will share pictures of all we’ve been doing in Sunday school

Family Movie Night (FREE) – Friday, February 16th Come watch “Despicable Me 3” and have tacos!  Sign up at the welcome table to bring a taco topping/dish to pass.
